Near Alcester, Warwickshire, England

The village of Coughton lies two miles south of Studley where the A435 slopes down towards the River Arrow. The nearest town, Alcester, is two miles further south. The central feature is Coughton Court, set back from the main road in extensive grounds with the river running behind.

It is a small parish which lies within the District of Stratford upon Avon.

In 2008, the Parish Council sponsored a village plan, which was adopted by Stratford District Council in June 2010. It incorporates a design statement, a history of the village, and most importantly - an action plan that is monitored by the Parish Council. This represents the views of all residents who responded to an earlier questionnaire and forms the basis of the Village Plan. Copies have been issued to each household in the village.

This website contains the details of each part of the village plan.

Photo of the month

The photo of St Peters Church that we used last year on the back cover of the Village Plan was taken by Ruth Willmott. Last week she entered it into "A Warwickshire View" competition at the Ullenhall Show, and it won first prize and was also the "Best Image In Show". Ruth received a very lovely and very large silver challenge cup. "The first competition I have won since being a teenager!!!!" she said.

Speed Limit Review - new speed signs imminent

The contractor appointed to install the speed limit signs, is expected to start work on January 18th, and this is likely to take about two weeks to compete.

WANTED! Snow Warden

The Parish Council is asking for a willing resident to act as a snow warden during the forthcoming winter. They would liaise with the County by giving updates on weather conditions, local traffic problems, etc. Hopefully the weather will not be as extreme as the last two years. Please call John Gittins for more details by ringing 765964.

Diamond Jubilee Celebration

At the next meeting on January 16th, the parish council will be looking at options for commemorating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Ideas from residents are very welcome and will all be considered.

2012 Precept

The Parish Council has agreed that in view of the likelihood of more demands being placed on parishes, and future reductions in local authority services the local precept (the budget we have to work with each year) should be increased to £4500 as from April 2012.

Arsonists strike again

Last night there was yet another arson attack in the village, and again Bob Turner's crop of straw was destroyed. It started around 10.15 pm but this time was at the back of his farmyard and his home. Fortunately it was confined to an area away from the farm buildings, perhaps this is little consolation to the vast extent of the damage that occured and the impact on his livelihood. The police attended the scene and CCTV footage is being examined for any possible clues to finding those responsible. There is already sufficient evidence that shows the fire was started maliciously.

If anyone has any knowledge of who may be responsible for these attacks, or has seen or heard of anything suspicious, would they please contact the local police on 01789 444816, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Weight restrictions

Following the number of objections received the proposals are being reconsidered by the Structures (bridges) Team. Once they have considered their options further the County Council will contact the Parish Council and other objectors to advise on the proposed plan.
